Basalt quarry at Hoher Hagen

Fifteen million years ago, this region was dominated by hundreds of volcanoes. The hardened basalt at the 480m high Hoher Hagen are relics of volcanic activities, and of mining since the nineteenth century when new roadworks needed the hard stones.
